Tawa Chicken Recipe - Dhaba Style Chicken
Tawa Chicken Recipe - Marinated & Roasted!
Tawa Chicken is generally cook on roadside dhabas on big tawas. It considered a restaurant food but if you are home chef like me, then you can easily make this Punjabi Tawa recipe at home.
Chat Masala Powder which I have used here is also homemade, because it gives a nice aroma to the dish.
Here's the recipe for Tawa Chicken:
Ingredients:
For Marinade:
- 1 chicken (whole or cut in 4 pieces)
- 1 cup yogurt (beaten)
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ cup cooking oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp red chilli pepper
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder (roasted & crushed)
- ½ tsp coriander powder (roasted & crushed)
- ½ tsp chat masala powder
- ½ tsp garam masala powder
- ¼ tsp yellow food color
For Masala:
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 1 tomato (chopped)
- 3,4 green chillis chopped
- ¼ tsp chat masala powder
For Garnishing:
- 1 onion (cut in rings)
- 3,4 whole green chillis (make cut from center)
- coriander leaves (chopped)
Method:
Take chicken in a mixing bowl. Make small cuts on meaty part. Add all the spices, lemon juice, cooking oil and beaten yogurt. Marinate well and leave for 20 minutes.After 20 minutes to marinade, Heat a tawa or skillet. Put the chicken on it. Pour remaining masala mixture on to chicken. Cover it with deep lid and cook on medium to low heat for about 10 minutes or untill one side cooks well.
Open it and change the sides, cover again to cook other sides well. Give it 10 mimutes or untill all the excess water gets dry.
When all the juices gets dry and chicken leaves oil, put chopped onions, green chillis and tomatos in the center of tawa. Sprinkle ¼ tsp chat masala on it and cover with lid for another 5 to 10 minutes.
When masala changes into gravey, turn off the heat and garnish it with ring onions, coriander and chillis.
Its ready to eat. Serve hot with naans.
